Why Chiron? The Greek Myth Behind Our Name

Updated: Aug 7

With The Odyssey bringing Greek mythology back into popular conversation, it feels like a good time to share the story behind our name.

Back in 2020, before Chiron Hotel Consulting existed, I read Homer’s Odyssey and Iliad. As I explored the stories surrounding them, one lesser-known figure piqued my interest: Chiron.

The mentor behind Achilles

Chiron was a centaur, but unlike the wild and unpredictable centaurs found elsewhere in Greek mythology, he was known for his wisdom, humility and practical knowledge. He was a healer, teacher and trusted guide to several Greek heroes, including Achilles.

Most people know Achilles as the great warrior of the Trojan War; far less know about the person who helped prepare him for that role. Chiron helped prepare Achilles for the event that made his name, then remained in the background while his student became the celebrated hero.

That combination of wisdom and humility was what appealed to me.

Why it became our name

When I founded Chiron Hotel Consulting in 2021, I wanted the business to follow the same principle.

We believe founders and owners know their businesses best. Our job is not to take over or arrive with a corporate playbook and ask you to fit into it.

You come to us with your vision. We bring perspective, specialist expertise and practical support, working alongside you as an extension of your team.

You lead, we help you grow. The results, recognition and success are yours. What we bring is clear thinking, practical implementation and progress you can see.

Chiron never needed to be the hero of the story; he used his experience to help someone else fulfil their potential, often through work that happened away from the spotlight. That is the kind of consultancy we set out to be.

If you would like to discuss what that support could look like for your hotel or travel business, contact Ellie at ellie@chironhotelconsulting.com.
